Hours: 0.8 FTE (approx. 32 hours/week) | Between 7:00am – 6:00pm

West Coast Health is seeking a Kaiawhina to join our outreach service, Te Waka Ngākau o Poutini a partnership-based initiative supporting the holistic wellbeing of tangata whaiora and their whānau.

About the Role

As Kaiawhina, you will walk alongside a Nurse Practitioner, working across marae, schools, and other community settings. You’ll be a key point of contact and trusted support person for whānau, providing practical assistance, emotional support, and culturally grounded care that uplifts mana and promotes wellbeing.

You’ll also work collaboratively with Poutini Waiora and other local services to ensure seamless, holistic support for tangata whaiora.

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

  • A heart for service and manaaki.
  • Experience in community, health, or social support roles (formal or informal).
  • A strong understanding of te ao Māori and commitment to kaupapa Māori approaches.
  • Willingness to complete a Level 4 qualification in Health & Wellbeing (if not already held).
  • Ability to build trust and whanaungatanga with whānau.
  • Full NZ driver’s licence and compliance with the Vulnerable Children’s Act.

Desirable:

  • Previous work with Māori, Pasifika, or tangata whaiora.
  • Experience with Whānau Ora or kaupapa Māori models of care.
