About the role

West Coast Health has been commissioned to transform the mental health system in Te Tai o Poutini.  We have been working steadily towards this goal and it is now time to expand our team as we move from design into implementation. 

We are looking for a Tangata Whaiora / Consumer Leader to work alongside our Primary Mental Health Clinical Lead to ensure that lived experience is prioritised in our model of care. 

What you’ll bring

The ideal person will have:

  • Lived experience of accessing mental health services on the West Coast.

  • Lived and living experience of personal Recovery

  • A genuine ability to connect with local tangata whaiora / consumers to amplify their voice

  • A desire to work collaboratively with mental health service providers and other stakeholdes to improve the experience for tangata whaiora / consumers

  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to apply the principles to your thinking and mahi

  • Leadership experience 

  • Excellent written,verbal and interpersonal skills

You don’t need to have experience working as a Consumer Leader – it’s more important that you understand what it is like to live and access services on the West Coast.  We know that the CPSLE (consumer, peer support, lived experience) workforce is still developing on the West Coast.  To bolster the growth of this workforce, West Coast Health will support the successful candidate to undertake training in this field and will expect them to embrace this opportunity.
