PASS, previously referred to as Green Prescription is New Zealand’s highly successful exercise referral programme. The programme involves an initial face-to-face consultation, followed by regular catch ups and continued support with our physical activity advisor. This service is funded but free to you.

How do I access this service?

To access this service, you must:

  • Be 16 years and older.

  • Do less than 2.5 hours of physical activity a week.

  • Motivated to make change.

  • Medically cleared to do low-moderate physical activity

Please note: PASS referrals are issued to patients and whānau who meet the referral criteria by GPs and Nurses based in West Coast medical practices. We no longer accept self-referrals. Furthermore, we do not offer free access to pools, gyms, or leisure centres, instead we develop individualised plans around patient fitness goals which may include non-financial support to access such services.

Active Families

West Coast Health believes in the importance of engaging the whole whānau in physical activity.

Our Active Families team delivers a free support programme. Our team will have a conversation about what support the whānau needs in regard to their health and wellbeing. They work with the whānau to develop goals to support positive behaviour change such as increasing physical activity and nutrition support, with the main focus being on developing behaviour change that supports health long term.

How do I access the active families service?

The child must meet the following criteria:

  • Under 12 years old.

  • Would benefit from physical activity.

  • Has whānau support.
